PRODUCT ASSETS / EDITING AND PUBLISHING
How can one Canva data row populate every page of a product carousel?
In Canva Create designs in bulk, a row creates one design version and each column supplies a field value. To make one product row populate an entire carousel, connect the relevant field on every page; a connection made on the first page does not by itself establish the mappings for the other pages.
Prepare One Complete Row
Use a non-destructive copy of the product carousel and prepare one test row for a single SKU. Give each content type its own column, such as ProductName, PriceText, FeatureOne, FeatureTwo, and ProductImage. The names here are illustrative; use field names that match the content you actually need on the asset.
For image placeholders, use a Canva frame or grid on the relevant page. Do not paste a cloud photo-storage URL into an image field and expect it to render as a picture: Canva treats such URLs as text. The image must be embedded in the data cell rather than floating separately from the cell value.
- Create or identify one row containing every value needed by the carousel, including the embedded product image.
- Open Create designs in bulk and connect the row's fields to the matching elements on page one.
- Move through each remaining page and connect its text elements, image frames, or grids to the intended fields.
- Generate only the test version, then inspect every page in the resulting design.
Map Page By Page
Treat each page as a separate mapping surface. For example, connect ProductName to the title element on page one, ProductName again to the title element on page two, and FeatureOne to the feature callout on page three if that is how the design is structured. Reusing a field value is acceptable; assuming its connection propagates is the risky part.
Record the evidence while testing: the row identifier, the field value, the page number, and the element that displays it. A missing value, unchanged placeholder, wrong field, or image rendered as a URL identifies a mapping problem rather than a product-data problem.
| Evidence | Likely finding | Next action |
|---|---|---|
| Correct value appears on every intended page | The page connections are working | Continue to final visual inspection |
| Placeholder or blank remains on one page | That page's element is not connected or its field is empty | Reconnect that element, then regenerate the test |
| Image shows as text or a URL | The image was not embedded in the cell | Replace the cell content with the embedded image and retest |
Illustrative exercise
Illustrative exercise: define two distinguishable assets before comparing results. Asset A is the test row for SKU MUG-RED, with ProductName set to “Red Stoneware Mug” and an embedded red mug image in ProductImage. Asset B is page two of the carousel, whose title element is intended to display ProductName and whose main visual uses ProductImage.
After generation, pass means page two shows “Red Stoneware Mug” in its title and displays the red mug image inside its frame or grid. Fail means page two retains placeholder text, shows a blank frame, displays the image field as text, or shows a different product. This exercise is illustrative and is not a claim that the asset was tested.
Branch Before Handoff
Use this short action sequence: duplicate the design, prepare one complete row, connect fields on every page, generate one version, inspect the rendered pages, and then decide whether to proceed.
If every intended field and image passes on every page, use the same mapping pattern for the wider set and inspect the generated designs separately. If any page fails, stop the handoff, identify the failing page and field from the evidence, correct that page's connection or embedded image cell, and regenerate the single-SKU test. Do not rely on a video preview alone: previews can be static, so the final designs require their own check.

Frequently asked questions
Can I connect fields only on the first page?
No. Each page needs its own field connections. Repeat the mapping on every page where the row's values should appear.
Why does my product image appear as a URL or text?
A cloud photo-storage URL is treated as text. Place the image embedded in the data cell and connect that field to a Canva frame or grid.
