PRODUCT ASSETS / EDITING AND PUBLISHING

Will editing my product spreadsheet update Canva ads I already created?

No: editing the spreadsheet does not by itself update Canva ads already generated with Bulk Create, which produces static designs. Data Autofill is a separate connected-data workflow, so verify that your asset actually uses it before expecting connected data to appear in the design.

Identify what made the ad

Start with one product ad whose price changed. Determine whether it was generated through Bulk Create or set up with Data Autofill; do not infer this from the fact that a spreadsheet was involved. Bulk Create produces static designs, so a price placed in a generated design is a value in that design, not proof of an ongoing connection.

Data Autofill is a separate connected-data workflow. Its existence does not establish that a particular ad is connected or that a spreadsheet edit has already appeared there. Inspect the specific design and workflow you used.

  1. Make a non-destructive copy of one affected design and note its current displayed price.
  2. Record the product identifier, old price, new price, and asset filename in a replacement list.
  3. Identify whether the copy came from Bulk Create or a Data Autofill workflow.

Illustrative exercise: test one changed price

Illustrative exercise: define two distinguishable assets before comparing them. Asset A is “Mug-Blue-Static,” a product ad generated with Bulk Create and displaying an illustrative price of $18. Asset B is “Mug-Red-Connected,” a separate design intended for a Data Autofill workflow and displaying an illustrative price of $18. These names and prices are fictional; they are not tested Canva results.

In a test copy of the source data, change only the blue mug’s price from the illustrative $18 to $20. Inspect each design after the edit. Asset A passes the update test only if you create or edit a replacement that visibly shows $20; the original static design still showing $18 fails as an updated ad. Asset B passes only if the changed value is visibly reflected in that connected design. If it remains at $18, treat it as unconfirmed and investigate the connection or refresh path rather than assuming the spreadsheet edit propagated.

  1. Keep product identity and other fields unchanged in the test copy.
  2. Compare the displayed value with the changed source value, not with a filename or spreadsheet timestamp.
  3. Do not publish the test asset until its price and product identity agree.

Choose the next action from the evidence

If the ad was generated with Bulk Create, treat it as a static copy. Make a replacement design using the corrected data, then review the result before it takes the place of the old ad. Maintain a changed-price replacement list so no affected asset is overlooked.

If the ad was intended to use Data Autofill, inspect whether the relevant design is actually part of that connected-data workflow and whether the new value appears in the design. If the connection is unclear or the value stays old, pause replacement decisions and resolve that specific workflow first. Do not assume Bulk Create and Data Autofill behave alike.

  1. Static Bulk Create asset: add it to the replacement list and generate or edit a corrected copy.
  2. Connected Data Autofill asset with the new value visible: record the check and review the ad before use.
  3. Connection uncertain or value stale: keep the old ad identified as requiring review; inspect the workflow and test again on a copy.

Acceptance condition and handoff

Accept a changed-price ad only when its visible price matches the current intended source value, the product identifier matches the intended item, and the replacement list records the asset as reviewed. A spreadsheet edit alone is not acceptance evidence. Keep the old asset identifiable until the replacement has passed these checks; avoid removing unrelated creative files.

For a batch, review every changed-price row against its corresponding asset. A mismatch, missing replacement, or uncertain data connection is a fail for that item, not a reason to mark the whole batch complete.

QUESTIONS, ANSWERED

Frequently asked questions

Does re-uploading the edited spreadsheet change designs already made with Bulk Create?

Not by itself. Bulk Create produces static designs. Create or edit a replacement and verify its visible price.

If I used Data Autofill, can I assume the price updated?

No. Data Autofill is a separate connected-data workflow, but you still need to confirm the specific design is connected and visibly reflects the changed value.
