Why Does My Imported Product Logo Jump Across a Kdenlive Title When I Rotate It?

Kdenlive's Title Editor rotates imported images around the object's top-left corner, not its center. A logo can therefore move unexpectedly when you change Rotate X, Y, or Z. Check its position and rotation behavior before investigating whether another object is covering it.

Locate the Imported Image First

Use Alt+I in the Title Editor to insert an image. Kdenlive initially places the image's top-left corner at the workspace's top-left corner.

A small logo may therefore be difficult to notice, especially when the surrounding title contains larger objects. Its apparent absence does not establish that the import failed.

Before rotating anything, locate the image in the workspace and inspect its position. Move it into a useful working area so subsequent changes are easier to evaluate.

Decision branch: If the logo seems missing immediately after insertion, investigate its initial top-left placement before attempting another import.

Separate Scaling Behavior From Rotation

Preserve aspect ratio is enabled by default. You can resize an imported image using its W and H values or the Zoom control while maintaining the intended proportions.

Shift+Drag provides scaling around the image center. However, this center-based scaling behavior does not establish a center-based rotation pivot.

Rotate X, Rotate Y and Rotate Z use the object’s own top-left corner as the rotation center. Artwork can sweep around that corner rather than its visual center. Do not confuse this object reference with the workspace origin where the image was initially inserted.

The cited image-properties page does not describe a pivot-relocation command. Work from the documented rotation behavior and inspect placement in a copy rather than inventing a control or assuming that center resizing changes the rotation reference.

Illustrative Exercise: Two Logo Inputs

Illustrative exercise — hypothetical title designs, not executed software tests. Input A is a small square product logo placed near the upper-right area of a promotional title. Input B is a wide brand graphic positioned near the bottom of a product announcement.

For Input A, insert the image, locate its initial position, move it into the intended area, and inspect the result of changing Rotate Z. Compare the object's position before and after rotation.

For Input B, preserve its proportions while adjusting W, H, or Zoom. Compare center-based Shift+Drag scaling with rotation around the top-left corner.

Decision branch: If rotation changes the logo's position unexpectedly, check its top-left rotation reference and placement. If the logo disappears behind another object, investigate stacking rather than rotation.

Check Alignment and Object Stacking

Kdenlive provides alignment controls, but their behavior depends on the selected alignment action. Repeated clicks on left, right, top, or bottom alignment can stop at the safety-box edges. Center alignment uses the center of the outermost box.

These behaviors matter when placing logos near title boundaries. Do not assume every alignment command uses the same reference.

Z-index controls which title objects appear in front of others. A correctly imported and positioned logo may be obscured by another graphic.

For final verification, check position, rotation, proportions, alignment, and Z-index in that order. Inspect the complete title composition before concluding that the image needs to be imported again.

QUESTIONS, ANSWERED

Frequently asked questions

Does Shift+Drag make the logo rotate around its center?

No. Shift+Drag provides center-based scaling. Rotate X, Y, and Z use the object's top-left corner as their rotation center.

Why is my logo invisible even though the image was inserted?

It may be difficult to locate at the workspace's top-left corner, particularly if small, or it may be obscured by another object. Inspect placement and Z-index before repeating the import.
