Assets & tasks / FIELD GUIDE
How do you localize prices, dates and measurements in product copy?
Translation is only one pass. Review numbers, units, currency and dates as structured data, then confirm that the localized copy preserves the underlying value. A fluent sentence can still tell a buyer the wrong size or deadline.
Extract the values before translating
For a fictional travel pouch, list the verified dimensions, the offer end time and the currency separately from the prose. Record the market and time zone for the deadline. A date such as 04/05 is ambiguous across audiences; write a clear month name or another locally understandable form after checking the intended meaning.
Do not allow a model to convert a commercial price by an assumed exchange rate or turn an exact measurement into a rounded claim without approval. Product copy is not the source of pricing, currency conversion or shipping policy.
Review a localization ledger
| Value | Decision | Approval owner |
|---|---|---|
| Dimension | Unit and rounding policy | Product owner |
| Price | Market currency and actual amount | Commerce owner |
| Deadline | Date, time and zone | Campaign owner |
| Variant name | Approved local terminology | Catalog owner |
The ledger preserves the source value and the displayed form. A translator can explain a proposed adaptation without silently changing the sale terms.
Read the visual too
Check text baked into a poster, packaging reference or comparison image. A translated caption next to an image with an old currency or deadline leaves a conflicting message. Review native copy and image copy together, especially when a visual is reused across markets.
Test with a local reader
Ask an appropriate reviewer to interpret the final values rather than merely judge fluency. Have them explain which day the offer ends and which unit a dimension uses. Resolve ambiguity before publication. The unit conversion guide covers numerical precision; translated layout covers text that no longer fits.
An ambiguity review exercise
Suppose a campaign draft says the offer ends on 04/05 and includes a size expressed with a decimal comma. Ask the campaign owner which date and time zone were intended, then ask the product owner to confirm the underlying measurement. Produce an unambiguous localized display from those approved values. Review the old image too: it may still contain a different date or unit. The approval record should preserve both the source value and the public wording. A fluent local-language review alone does not close these numerical questions.

Frequently asked questions
Can fluent translation prove numerical accuracy?
No. Review structured values separately.
Can AI choose the localized selling price?
Use the approved market price from the commerce owner.
Should the image and caption be reviewed together?
Yes. They must express the same values and conditions.
