Logo studio / DECISION CHECK
Why does my “transparent PNG” logo still have a white box?
PNG supports transparency, but a particular PNG can still contain an opaque white background. Check the actual file on a contrasting surface. A white preview, a .png extension or the word “transparent” in a prompt does not establish an alpha channel.
Distinguish the viewer from the file
Open the export in an editor that displays transparency and place it over both a dark and a colored background. Some viewers show a transparent canvas as white; others display genuinely white pixels. Test the asset itself rather than interpreting the preview’s background. Also inspect whether only the outer canvas was removed while white islands remain between letters or inside the symbol.
A photographic mockup can contain a correct-looking logo on white paper without providing a reusable isolated mark. Keep the original concept for design review, but ask for a separate approved production asset. Itemlume Logo studio generates raster concepts; a requested isolated mark still needs output inspection.
Review the export evidence
| Observation | Interpretation to check | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| White disappears on dark canvas | Viewer was showing transparency as white | Inspect edges and internal spaces |
| Solid white rectangle remains | Opaque background pixels | Create a reviewed transparent export externally |
| White fringe on dark surface | Edge pixels contaminated by white | Review cutout and anti-aliasing |
| Symbol contains white areas | May be intentional artwork | Decide which areas belong to the mark |
Do not indiscriminately erase every white pixel: an intentionally white logo version would disappear. Separate the artwork’s fill colors from its background.
Use two approval backgrounds
For an illustrative teal symbol, test the final PNG on the store’s dark navigation bar and its pale packaging preview. Examine a small display size and the edge at a useful zoom. Record which logo version is intended for each surface. A black-on-transparent export and a white-on-transparent export are separate deliverables, even when both come from the same master.
Use the logo delivery review CSV as a manual record. Its sample row is fictional. Replace it with your own authorized evidence; the worksheet does not connect to or change any external account.
Keep concept and deliverable labels honest
Save the raster concept, transparent web export and any externally redrawn vector master under distinct names. Do not call the concept a transparent asset until the actual pixels pass the test. Transparency also does not prove vector editability, font rights or trademark clearance. Approve those properties separately before commercial rollout.

Frequently asked questions
Does PNG always mean transparent?
No. The format can contain an entirely opaque image.
Can a white preview still be transparent?
Yes. Test it on a contrasting background in an appropriate viewer.
Should every white region be erased?
No. Some white regions may be intentional parts of the logo.
