Packaging studio / QUESTION GUIDE
How do you explain a return mailer’s two sealing stages?
Map the actual first seal, opening path and return seal before designing instructions. A generated bag with two strips does not prove it supports returns. Use supplier-confirmed construction and the merchant’s actual return process, then make each stage understandable without confusing which strip should be used first.
Separate physical construction from return policy
Obtain the real mailer specification and a sample. Ask which features are for sealing and which are for opening. Keep the merchant’s return eligibility and label process in a separate approved record. The package should not promise a return right merely because it contains another adhesive strip.
For an illustrative apparel mailer, the second strip may help reseal the bag after a permitted return is arranged. It does not automatically create postage, a label or merchant authorization.
Write the stage map
| Stage | Physical feature | Message to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Initial packing | First seal | Which strip is used |
| Customer opening | Actual opening path | Avoid damaging return area |
| Return preparation | Second seal if supported | Follow approved merchant process |
| Return dispatch | Authorized label/process | No implied prepaid service |
Keep directions based on the actual sample. Do not use an AI drawing to decide where a buyer should cut or tear the bag.
Create an illustrative package direction
In Packaging studio, describe the mailer’s intended visual identity and stage labels. Treat generated strips, arrows and perforations as concepts. Develop precise artwork on the supplier template externally, and verify any operation diagram against a real handling demonstration.
If the candidate shows one strip where two are required or places a headline across the opening path, revise it. Itemlume does not validate return-mailer mechanisms or connect the packaging concept to a shipping carrier.
Test the message before release
Ask a reviewer to identify the first seal and return step from the sample and approved wording. Record confusion and revise the sequence. Check that a cropped ecommerce image does not imply prepaid returns when that service is not supplied.
Use bag message roles for channel context and opening sequence for physical order. Approve construction, policy wording and graphics separately.

Frequently asked questions
Does a second strip imply free returns?
No. The merchant’s approved return process determines that message.
Can I generate the opening instructions?
Verify all instructions against the real construction and sample.
Does Itemlume connect the pack to a carrier?
No. This is a design concept workflow.
