PRODUCT CREATIVE / PRODUCTION AND HANDOFF
Why can Premiere accept my 60fps HDR product clip while the AI-extended section is 30fps SDR?
Premiere accepting a source clip does not mean Generative Extend reproduces its technical specifications. The feature accepts 12–60fps sources with 8-, 10-, or 16-bit SDR or HDR content. Extensions from sources above 30fps are generated at 30fps, and generated sections use 8-bit SDR. The original footage remains unchanged. Review the boundary between original and generated content before approving delivery.
Separate source eligibility from generated output
A merchant may supply a 60fps HDR bottle-orbit video and assume that an AI-generated continuation will preserve the original recording characteristics.
Generative Extend accepts a broader range of source specifications than it produces. The source remains in its native form, while the extension follows the generation output rules.
This creates two technically different sections within one editing task. A source can be eligible even when the generated continuation does not match its frame rate, bit depth, or color representation.
Before extending an approved product shot, record the source specifications and determine whether the final delivery requires consistent native capture characteristics throughout.
Do not treat successful import or generation as evidence that the continuation has identical technical properties.
Review the full specification boundary
For source frame rates above 30fps, the generated extension uses 30fps. Generated material is 8-bit SDR even when the original source uses higher bit depth or HDR.
Interlaced sources can be accepted, but the generated extension is progressive. Sources with non-square pixels can also be accepted, while extensions use square pixels.
For unusual aspect ratios, generation uses an appropriate native configuration and reframes the result to match the source aspect ratio. Matching the displayed shape does not guarantee preservation of the source's original pixel grid.
Record these properties together in the delivery brief so a matching frame shape is not mistaken for a match across color, motion and image representation.
A visually continuous result is not proof of identical technical specifications, and matching dimensions alone cannot establish matching color or temporal characteristics.
Illustrative exercise: two product-video requirements
Illustrative exercise — fictional merchant scenarios. No Premiere operation, AI generation, audio processing, or image-quality test was executed.
Input A is a 60fps HDR bottle-orbit advertisement. The merchant wants to extend the rotating product shot while preserving a consistent premium presentation.
The team should identify the generated section's different specifications and decide whether the proposed delivery can accommodate them. If uninterrupted native capture is mandatory, evaluate an authentic alternative shot rather than assuming frame interpolation restores missing physical information.
Input B is an approved 24fps, 8-bit SDR packaging shot requiring a short continuation.
Its source characteristics are closer to the generated output contract, but the team must still inspect the transition, package lettering, product identity, and motion continuity.
Neither case predicts actual visual quality or guarantees a seamless extension.
Make the delivery decision at the segment boundary
Review the original-to-generated transition for motion cadence, color appearance, highlights, shadows, and visible product details.
Check whether package lettering, labels, and recognizable features remain consistent. Technical compatibility does not establish factual accuracy in newly generated frames.
If the final specification requires an uninterrupted native HDR or high-frame-rate recording, stop before approving the AI continuation as equivalent footage.
Adobe's newer September 2026 overview permits HDR source input. Do not repeat the older blanket iPhone HDR prohibition from conflicting known-issues guidance.
Firefly-powered Generative Extend is unavailable in China. This guide does not suggest bypassing that regional restriction.
The completion condition is an explicitly accepted source-to-extension specification difference and a separately reviewed product presentation.

These are illustrative exercise rows. Save a copy and record your own observations; the example is not an executed acceptance test.
| Fictional product shot | Source specification | Generated-section consideration | Merchant decision | Acceptance condition |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| A: Rotating glass bottle | 60fps, HDR, higher-bit-depth source | 30fps, 8-bit SDR extension | Assess whether mixed specifications are acceptable or authentic footage is required | Motion, color, product details, and native-capture requirements reviewed |
| B: Packaging presentation | 24fps, 8-bit SDR source | Output characteristics closer to source | Evaluate continuation with boundary inspection | Transition and packaging identity reviewed without assuming perfect continuity |

Frequently asked questions
Does Premiere convert my entire 60fps HDR clip to 30fps SDR when I extend it?
No. The original footage remains unchanged. The generated extension follows its separate output specifications.
If the extension matches my source aspect ratio, does it preserve the original pixel structure?
Not necessarily. Generation can reframe a native configuration to match the source aspect ratio without preserving its original pixel grid or pixel aspect ratio.
