PRODUCT CREATIVE / PRODUCTION AND HANDOFF
Why does Product Studio animate my main photo when I intended a different product view?
In Product Studio's Animate images workflow, selecting a product from the catalog uses its main product image. If you want to animate a different photograph, such as an approved side view or handle close-up, upload that specific image directly. Editing the automatically filled generation prompt does not itself replace the selected visual input.
Identify which photograph entered the animation task
A merchant may have several approved photographs of a ceramic mug: a front view, a side view showing the handle, and a close-up of the rim.
When the merchant chooses the product through the catalog selection route in Product Studio's Animate images workflow, the main product image becomes the generation input.
That default may be suitable for a general product introduction. It may be unsuitable when the advertisement specifically needs the handle close-up.
Before changing motion instructions, compare the image shown as the generation input with the photograph required by the brief.
The relevant question is not whether the catalog contains the desired side view. It is whether that photograph was actually selected for this animation task.
Choose catalog selection or direct image upload
Use the catalog product route when the main product photograph is the intended source. This keeps the task aligned with the product's existing primary visual.
If the required input is another approved photograph, the official guidance recommends uploading that image directly.
For example, a merchant preparing a handle-focused mug advertisement should supply the approved handle view rather than expect the catalog selector to choose it automatically.
The automatically filled prompt can be edited to describe motion, but changing its wording should not be mistaken for changing the underlying source image.
Do not replace the catalog's global main photograph merely to create one video from a side view. That would change a separate product-media responsibility.
This decision applies specifically to Animate images, not every Product Studio video-generation route.
Illustrative exercise: front view versus handle detail
Illustrative exercise — fictional merchant inputs, not executed Product Studio operations, uploads, animations, or account tests.
Input A is a product-introduction video for a ceramic mug. The approved catalog main image shows the complete front presentation, which is also the intended animation source.
The merchant can evaluate the catalog product route, then review whether the selected input matches the brief before considering motion.
Input B is a feature demonstration emphasizing the mug's curved handle. The catalog main photograph shows the front and does not adequately reveal the handle.
The merchant should directly upload the approved side photograph. Rewriting the motion prompt to mention the handle does not establish that the side image has become the input.
Neither branch guarantees that generated motion preserves every pixel or reveals physically accurate unseen surfaces.
Verify source identity before reviewing motion
Use a two-stage review. First confirm the exact photograph selected for animation. Then evaluate whether the proposed motion suits that photograph and the product brief.
Record the product SKU, intended source view, and whether the image came from the catalog main-image route or direct upload.
If the wrong view is selected, stop before spending effort refining movement instructions. Correct the input route first.
After any future generation, the merchant should independently review product identity and visible details throughout the clip. An approved source photograph does not guarantee identical generated frames.
Creating an animation also does not establish that the catalog's main product photograph has been changed.
The completion condition is a clearly identified animation source and a separate plan for reviewing the resulting product presentation.
Illustrative exercise — Product Studio animation input decision
These are illustrative exercise rows. Save a copy and record your own observations; the example is not an executed acceptance test.
| Fictional video | Required photograph | Catalog main image | Input decision | Review condition |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| A: Ceramic mug introduction | Approved front photograph | Same approved front photograph | Evaluate catalog product selection | Confirm main image is the intended animation source |
| B: Mug handle feature video | Approved side handle close-up | Front photograph | Upload the side photograph directly | Confirm the handle view is selected before reviewing motion |

Frequently asked questions
Can I select a catalog product and expect Product Studio to animate its side photograph?
Not by default. The documented Animate images workflow uses the main product image when selecting a product. Directly upload the desired alternative photograph.
Will editing the motion prompt switch the source from the main photo to my handle close-up?
No such behavior is documented. Select the intended visual input separately before refining the motion description.
