Product videos / PRODUCTION GUIDE
Can music added to a product clip be reused on another platform?
Check the chosen track’s actual permission for each intended destination before reusing the video. A label such as free or copyright-safe does not establish every advertising, platform or territorial use. Keep the track, license and required credit with the finished export, and preserve a clean silent source for destinations needing different sound.
Write the uses before selecting the music
Imagine an illustrative candle seller adding a gentle instrumental track to a ten-second product clip for YouTube. The team later wants the same export in a paid social campaign and on the store’s product page. The footage may be reusable, but the soundtrack’s permission needs to be checked for those actual uses. Approval of the picture does not answer the music question.
List the destination, account or business, organic or advertising use and any relevant territory or duration. Include who obtained the track and which version was downloaded. This makes it possible to inspect the correct terms rather than treating every file named royalty-free-music as an interchangeable resource.
Read the specific library and track instructions
YouTube’s Audio Library help distinguishes tracks requiring Creative Commons attribution from its standard Audio Library license without attribution. It also says YouTube does not provide legal guidance about music issues off its platform. Use the actual track’s license and credit requirements; do not turn that platform-specific help into a general cross-platform guarantee.
A random channel describing a song as free is not the same source as YouTube’s Audio Library. Likewise, a subscription to a third-party library is not a description of every permitted use. Inspect the terms associated with the actual download, including advertising and redistribution limits where stated, and resolve unclear scope with the rights provider before release.
Create a destination-permission record
| Field | Information to preserve | Decision it supports |
|---|---|---|
| Track identity | Title, creator and exact source | Identify the permission being checked |
| License reference | Applicable terms and retrieval date | Review the actual granted use |
| Intended destination | Platform, account and placement | Check that use rather than another |
| Required attribution | Exact credit and where it appears | Publish the required acknowledgment |
Do not write cleared everywhere in the candle campaign record unless the actual permission establishes that scope. A positive platform upload result is an observation about that upload, not a substitute for the underlying rights documentation.
Keep separate exports when the sound permission differs
If the track fits the YouTube use but another destination remains unresolved, preserve the clean silent clip and prepare an appropriate separately reviewed soundtrack for that placement. Identify the sound-bearing derivative by filename and destination. Avoid replacing music in an otherwise approved export without checking the new track and listening to the full result.
An attribution line also needs maintenance. Copy the required credit accurately into the destination where it belongs, and verify it survives the publishing workflow. A platform’s automatically displayed music information does not necessarily replace the credit required by the particular license. Keep the actual published acknowledgment with the export’s release record.
Review the soundtrack’s meaning after checking permission
Itemlume’s five, ten or fifteen second 720p product videos contain no generated audio. Music selection, mixing and final exports belong to an external editor; Itemlume does not operate an audio library or clear rights. Use the silent-video guide to keep the source understandable before adding a soundtrack.
Then follow the sound-meaning review. A licensed effect can still imply an unsupported latch, motor or performance result. Permission and factual interpretation are distinct checks. Save both decisions so the next publisher knows why that exact combination was approved. This worksheet organizes questions for the actual rights terms; it does not promise legal safety or freedom from every future claim.
