Why Does My WordPress Product-Photo Sequence Change on the Published Page but Not in the Editor?

The WordPress Gallery block documents a Randomize order setting that affects the published page while the editor still shows the added order. If a product sequence looks correct in editing but changes for visitors, inspect that setting before changing filenames or redoing the photographs.

01 / WHY DOES MY WORDPRESS PRODUCT-PHOTO SEQUENCE CHANGE ON THE PUBLISHED PAGE BUT NOT IN THE EDITOR?

Decide whether these pictures form a sequence

An appearance gallery can sometimes tolerate a different first detail. An assembly, unboxing or before-and-after explanation may depend on order. State the viewing job before treating a shuffled result as either a defect or a design improvement.

Identify whether the page uses the core Gallery block, a product-gallery block or a third-party widget. This guide concerns the documented core Gallery control. Similar-looking galleries can have different settings; do not assign a core-block cause to another component without inspection.

02 / WHY DOES MY WORDPRESS PRODUCT-PHOTO SEQUENCE CHANGE ON THE PUBLISHED PAGE BUT NOT IN THE EDITOR?

Compare the editor setting with the published behavior

WordPress says Randomize order leaves editor images in their added order but displays them randomly on the published post. That means an orderly editor preview cannot, by itself, prove an ordered public presentation.

Inspect the Gallery parent block rather than only one nested Image block. Record the order setting and the intended first-to-last image list. If your version or component lacks the control, follow its actual documentation instead of assuming the feature exists everywhere.

Do not rename files to force alphabetical order before knowing which rule controls the presentation. A filename change and a gallery-order setting act at different layers. Preserve the approved images while testing the relevant display configuration.

03 / WHY DOES MY WORDPRESS PRODUCT-PHOTO SEQUENCE CHANGE ON THE PUBLISHED PAGE BUT NOT IN THE EDITOR?

An illustrative exercise: an unboxing story loses its start

Illustrative exercise: a fictional gift-box page has four images showing the closed box, opened lid, contents and packing detail. The editor shows that sequence, but visitors sometimes begin with the packing detail. No WordPress site was edited for this example.

The review first identifies the actual Gallery block and checks whether random ordering is enabled. If fixed sequence is the approved requirement, the maintainer evaluates the relevant setting in a safe preview and then checks the published result.

If the component is a different gallery or the random setting is not enabled, stop treating this explanation as confirmed. Record the observed order, component and page state, then inspect its own sorting behavior. Do not approve a guessed cause simply because the symptom resembles the documentation.

04 / WHY DOES MY WORDPRESS PRODUCT-PHOTO SEQUENCE CHANGE ON THE PUBLISHED PAGE BUT NOT IN THE EDITOR?

Verify the public narrative and preserve the asset set

Compare actual visitor-facing order with the approved sequence after any allowed change. Keep labels and captions matched to their respective images. A corrected first picture does not prove the remaining steps are still in order.

This guide supplies a documented control distinction and a manual review exercise. It does not report a WordPress edit, publishing test, browser-session experiment or conversion measurement, and does not integrate a WordPress gallery into Itemlume.

QUESTIONS, ANSWERED

Frequently asked questions

Why can the editor look ordered while the published gallery is shuffled?

That is the documented behavior when the core Gallery block’s Randomize order setting is used. Check that this is your component and setting.

Will renaming the image files necessarily restore the sequence?

No. Inspect the actual gallery’s ordering rule first. File naming does not automatically override a presentation setting.
