REFERENCE TROUBLESHOOTING / Product images
Why does an appliance knob point between impossible settings in AI photos?
Record the actual pointer, fixed scale and selected setting in one reference. Review their relationship rather than checking the knob alone. A generator can preserve each element’s appearance while rotating one independently, leaving the device pictured in a setting the real control does not have.
Identify what the reference actually proves
A shiny ridge can be mistaken for the pointer, while printed marks around a knob may be reconstructed as decorative ticks. On some products the pointer moves with the knob; on others the scale or indicator arrangement differs. Do not assume a familiar mechanism. A source showing only the attractive front surface cannot establish where the control is actually set.
Prepare the evidence before generating
- Identify the actual control and an ordinary supported display state. Record the setting from the product’s own markings or documentation.
- Take a close view showing the pointer and surrounding fixed marks together. Include a complete product view to locate that control.
- Use another angle if reflections conceal the pointer. Do not redraw it from memory when the original remains ambiguous.
- Generate the same state initially. Compare the fixed scale, pointer direction and any associated display before creating an operating scene.
Example creative request and a review matrix
Illustrative request: Show this appliance in the photographed control state. Preserve the actual pointer, fixed scale, printed marks and selected position. Keep reflections distinct from the pointer. Do not rotate the scale independently, invent extra settings or change the control to a generic dial with evenly spaced decorative ticks.
| Observed symptom | Evidence to inspect | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| A highlight is used as the pointer | Compare both source angles | Resolve the physical indicator |
| The pointer moves while the scale stays plausible | Check the selected setting record | Reject unsupported state change |
| The scale gains new values | Compare actual markings | Reject invented operation information |
Make the release decision
This is a depiction check, not an operating instruction or a performance test. Do not turn a generated control position into a claim about temperature, speed or capacity. Retain a genuine control close-up if buyers need to read its settings. When a setting is important to a demonstration, use actual product evidence and keep it consistent across the image, copy and any subsequent video.

Frequently asked questions
Can I ask AI to point the dial to the highest setting?
Only after establishing what that position actually is for this product. A plausible generic dial position is not evidence of the real control’s setting or effect.
