Product images / QUESTION GUIDE
How do you keep book editions and bindings accurate in AI product scenes?
Use photographs of the actual edition and identify whether the cover shown is a dust jacket, printed board or paperback. Matching cover artwork alone does not establish the binding. A generated hardcover spine, ribbon or page block can turn the scene into an image of a different product.
Establish the edition outside the artwork
Record the title, edition identifier and supplied format from authoritative inventory information. Obtain front, spine and a useful closed-edge view. If a jacket is removable, photograph the board beneath it separately when that distinction matters. Do not ask an image generator to infer hidden binding details from a flat cover file.
In an illustrative journal listing, a cloth board with a paper band is not the same as a printed paperback. Decide which parts remain in the hero image and which need a detail photograph. Keep typography artwork available for an external exact layout.
Check construction separately from graphics
| Feature | Evidence | Reject when |
|---|---|---|
| Spine | Actual edition photo | Thickness or title changes |
| Jacket | Photographed removable layer | Jacket becomes permanent printing |
| Page edge | Closed book view | Invented gilding or tabs appear |
| Ribbon | Actual supplied bookmark | Extra ribbon implies a feature |
A plausible page count in a rendered block is not a measurement. Avoid using AI page thickness to support page-count or paper-weight statements. Those facts should come from the publisher or manufacturer.
Create a scene with an inspectable edge
Open Product images and describe a simple reading setting that keeps the book’s spine and lower edge visible. Supply the exact-edition photographs as product evidence. Check whether the scene introduces additional volumes, a slipcase or stationery that might be mistaken for included items.
Use generated imagery for atmosphere only when the edition remains accurate enough for its role. For readable small spine text, an actual photograph or carefully composed authorized artwork can be a better choice. Generation is not a substitute for precise typesetting.
Compare the image with the selected format
If a shop offers paperback and hardcover options, select each option in the storefront and confirm that its associated image matches. Keep a neutral format photograph alongside the scene. A promotional crop must not remove the only visible evidence that distinguishes the options.
Refer to small lettering review for typography and inclusion review for slipcases and extras. An approval note should name the edition, not just say that the cover looks good.

Frequently asked questions
Is a flat cover enough for a three-dimensional book scene?
It does not establish the spine, board or page block. Obtain photographs of the edition.
Can I use the same scene for paperback and hardcover?
Only if it clearly and accurately represents each selection; usually their construction differs.
Can AI determine page count visually?
No. Use authoritative publication data.
