PRODUCT CREATIVE / PRODUCTION AND HANDOFF
Why did pressing Play in ElevenLabs Studio start generating more of my product narration?
Play can replay existing narration or generate missing audio. Before reviewing a product line, check its generation state and choose the intended playback range. This keeps the review focused on the take you actually mean to hear.
Identify whether the sound already exists
Studio documents three Play modes: Selection, Until end generating clips ahead, and Until end generating one at a time. The latter two differ in generation progression, not their chapter endpoint. Existing audio plays; missing narration can generate and consume credits.
Inspect the bar on the left of the paragraph: the documentation describes pale grey for unconverted narration and dark grey for converted narration. Its dark-mode help uses white for converted audio instead. Use the current theme and actual generation state together; script text alone does not establish that a take exists after a new offer is typed.
Keep the review question specific: are you checking an accepted recording, or asking the model to produce speech that the team has never heard? Those actions need different expectations.
Illustrative exercise A: replay an approved take
A fictional lamp advertisement already has an approved opening paragraph. The merchant wants to check the model name against the packaging. Confirm that this paragraph has generated audio and choose Selection for the focused review.
The intended object is the existing take, not a fresh performance. Compare the audible name with the approved product record and note whether the sentence ending remains clear. If the sound needs changing, make that a separate production decision rather than pressing broader playback controls in search of a different reading.
This exercise did not involve Studio operation or listening to an actual file. Its proposed observation remains unfilled until someone reviews the real recording.
Illustrative exercise B: produce a new campaign ending
A second project contains approved demonstrations and a newly typed offer paragraph. That ending has no audio yet. Decide whether the job is to generate only that paragraph or continue through the remaining chapter; inspect later content before choosing either Until end mode.
One-at-a-time progression should not be mistaken for a permanent one-paragraph limit. A chapter may contain other product explanations or unfinished offers that are outside this review. Keep those pending rather than accidentally including them because they follow the selected line.
Before generation, inspect the actual button and eligibility information. The separate regeneration help conditions its free allowance on unchanged text, voice and settings; the button and hover information identify the current selection's eligibility. Ordinary Play is not a request for a free new take.
Recheck the boundary when exporting
Export can convert remaining narration within the chosen chapter or project, with a cost notification when conversion is needed. A narrow playback review does not establish a narrow export scope.
For A, record which existing take was reviewed. For B, record which new paragraphs were generated and which remain pending. Then compare the actual new audio with product actions and caption timing before accepting it; a complete script is not a completed sound review.
No Studio account operation, speech generation, paid generation, export or actual audio listening was performed here. These fictional branches describe documented decisions and do not claim an Itemlume integration.
Illustrative exercise: existing take review versus missing ending generation
These are illustrative exercise rows. Save a copy and record your own observations; the example is not an executed acceptance test.
| Fictional request | Narration state | Scope decision | Before proceeding | Review responsibility |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| A: Check a lamp's model name again | Approved generated opening take | Selection for the target paragraph | Confirm state and identify the existing take | Listen to the real take against the product record; no fresh performance assumed |
| B: Add a campaign offer ending | New paragraph has no generated audio | Choose target-only generation or a deliberate chapter range | Inspect later paragraphs, actual button eligibility and any conversion notification | Review newly produced words, delivery and picture timing; keep other work pending |

Frequently asked questions
Does Play always create a new recording?
No. It replays generated narration, but can generate missing narration within the selected playback range. Inspect the paragraph's actual state first.
Does Until end, one at a time stop after the selected paragraph?
No. The documented range continues to the current chapter's end. Selection is the focused paragraph mode.
