REFERENCE TROUBLESHOOTING / Product images
How do I keep a fountain pen nib from becoming a generic metal tip?
Provide a readable actual nib reference and a view that explains its relationship to the feed and section. A polished tapered shape is not sufficient. Review the slit, tip, engraved information and attachment as separate details rather than approving the whole pen from a distant beauty shot.
Identify what the reference actually proves
A small nib may combine fine engraving, a narrow slit, bright reflections and a darker feed below. AI can smooth the surface into a solid metal cone, copy generic engraving or duplicate the tip. A capped pen photograph establishes the exterior but says little about the writing end. Use the actual nib variant, especially where a product family offers several visually similar options.
Prepare the evidence before generating
- Record the actual pen and nib variant. Photograph the complete uncapped pen with its cap clearly identified as the same item.
- Capture the nib face under light that leaves the slit, tip and engraving readable. Add an oblique or underside view when it clarifies the feed relationship.
- Keep the writing-end references separate from decorative packaging or an unrelated nib sample. Do not reconstruct unreadable engraving from a familiar brand.
- Generate a restrained scene at a supported angle. Review the writing end first, then the cap, clip and overall proportions.
Example creative request and a review matrix
Illustrative request: Present this actual fountain pen uncapped. Preserve the nib profile, visible slit, tip, engraved information and relationship to the feed and section. Keep the cap as the same referenced component. Do not turn the nib into a solid cone, duplicate the point or invent markings from a generic pen design.
| Observed symptom | Evidence to inspect | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| The slit disappears under polished metal | Compare the neutral nib detail | Reject lost construction |
| Engraving becomes sharp but fabricated | Read against the actual source | Reject invented marks |
| The feed appears as a second nib | Inspect the oblique relationship | Correct component roles |
Make the release decision
A matched photograph cannot establish line width, smoothness or ink-flow performance. Use actual writing samples where those properties matter, with their context stated. If the nib cannot remain accurate, keep the genuine macro in the gallery and limit generated work to presentation. A useful revision identifies the changed slit, tip or engraving rather than simply requesting a premium pen.

Frequently asked questions
Can a photo of the capped pen support a factual nib close-up?
No. It does not establish the hidden nib’s geometry, markings or feed. Obtain the actual uncapped reference.
