REFERENCE TROUBLESHOOTING / Product images
How do I prepare an ice-cream reference before the scoop melts?
Finish the lighting and framing before placing the actual scoop on set. Photograph a short, documented sequence and select the state that represents the intended serving. Do not treat an invented permanent scoop as evidence of the real product’s texture or resistance to melting.
Identify what the reference actually proves
A frozen subject changes during a shoot, so references captured at different times can disagree even when they show the same product. The edge softens, a pool develops and surface texture changes. Mixing an early close-up with a much later full view can leave the generator with incompatible shape evidence. Photographer discussions confirm this practical difficulty, but their individual timings and substitute-food suggestions are not universal instructions for a merchant’s product.
Prepare the evidence before generating
- Rehearse the camera position, crop and light with a clearly separate stand-in object. Prepare the serving vessel and background before introducing the actual food.
- Use the actual flavor and intended serving arrangement for the product reference. Record when it is placed on set and the capture order.
- Capture several genuine states without changing the composition. Select a consistent full view and detail from the same useful stage.
- Keep the chosen state fixed in the first AI request. Compare scoop outline, texture, inclusions and the amount of melt rather than requesting generic perfect ice cream.
Example creative request and a review matrix
Illustrative request: Place this actual ice-cream serving in a simple bright scene while preserving the selected reference state. Retain scoop ridges, visible inclusions, softened edge and the photographed amount of melt. Do not create a rigid plastic sphere, add toppings or suggest that the scoop remains unchanged over time.
| Observed symptom | Evidence to inspect | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| Early texture is combined with a late collapsed outline | Compare the capture order and chosen pair | Use references from one stage |
| All melting disappears | Compare the selected edge and pool | Reject an unsupported frozen state |
| The result adds larger inclusions | Check the actual flavor reference | Reject recipe embellishment |
Make the release decision
There is no single capture duration that applies to every recipe, serving size and room. Keep the record factual about your own shoot rather than presenting a suggested timing as a benchmark. Where process or melting behavior matters, genuine footage is stronger evidence than a generated still. This workflow improves reference consistency; it does not test storage, shelf life or product performance.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need artificial ice cream for the final sale image?
Not to follow this method. A stand-in can help prepare composition, but the informative product reference should show the real food in the state you intend to represent.
