Product images / DECISION CHECK

Should AI translate the words printed on my product packaging?

Keep the photographed package faithful to what the customer receives. Translate explanatory marketing copy separately unless you truly sell a different localized packaging edition. Making printed English become French in a generated image can accidentally depict a product that does not exist.

01 / SHOULD AI TRANSLATE THE WORDS PRINTED ON MY PRODUCT PACKAGING?

Identify three language layers

List the physical label, added image annotations and normal listing text separately. For a fictional imported tea tin, the manufacturer’s English label remains product evidence. A French callout explaining the tin capacity is a marketing layer. A French product description is normal page content. Approve the wording and placement of each rather than issuing one broad “translate everything” request.

If there is an actual French packaging edition, use a reference of that edition and identify its SKU. Do not use a translated mockup as evidence that the real stock has that label. Ask the product owner which language will arrive at the customer’s door.

This is a visual-fidelity review, not legal advice on market-specific labeling. AI rewriting does not establish that a package satisfies mandatory labeling requirements.

03 / SHOULD AI TRANSLATE THE WORDS PRINTED ON MY PRODUCT PACKAGING?

Brief the layers explicitly

A useful illustrative direction says: preserve all actual lettering and label geometry on the tin; put the approved French explanatory sentence outside the product; do not invent a French back label. Review both a full view and a readable crop. If small package words cannot be reproduced accurately, use the original product photograph or correct artwork in an appropriate editor rather than approving invented text.

04 / SHOULD AI TRANSLATE THE WORDS PRINTED ON MY PRODUCT PACKAGING?

Check the final shopper expectation

Show the delivered image beside the real stock reference and the localized listing. Ask whether a buyer could reasonably expect translated packaging from the picture. Remove that implication when it is false. Keep the market-copy approval and physical-edition record together. Itemlume’s copy-language option guides creative wording; it does not verify physical packaging editions or regulatory label requirements.

QUESTIONS, ANSWERED

Frequently asked questions

Can marketing copy be localized?

Yes, when its facts and translation are approved separately from the physical label.

What if a localized package really exists?

Use its actual reference and SKU rather than inventing an edition.

Does AI translation establish label compliance?

No. Required market labeling needs its own qualified review.
