DELIVERY TROUBLESHOOTING / Product images

Why does moving a product also move its reveal mask in Photoshop?

A linked layer and mask move together. To reposition the product inside a fixed reveal window, temporarily unlink them and select the image thumbnail rather than the mask thumbnail.

Work through the cause

  1. Duplicate the working group and note which boundary should remain fixed: the product edge or a layout window.
  2. Unlink the layer and mask, select the image thumbnail and move the product. Inspect the mask boundary without painting or deleting it.
  3. Relink when the relationship is final. Recheck the export, especially corners where moving the source can expose empty pixels.

A concrete case (illustrative)

Illustrative case: a product slides inside a rounded promotional tile. The rounded tile should stay in place while the bottle is repositioned. Moving a linked mask moves the entire window and creates the impression that the layout grid is broken.

Acceptance and next action

Pass when the window remains aligned and the product has the intended crop. For a mask that describes the product’s own outline, moving image and mask together may be correct. Identify the mask’s role before changing linkage.
