Why does the decorative repeat change size when I reuse a packaging template?

Record the pattern fill’s scale and the template’s transformations separately. Reusing a motif does not guarantee the same apparent repeat size across mockups with different canvases or transformed objects.

01 / WHY DOES THE DECORATIVE REPEAT CHANGE SIZE WHEN I REUSE A PACKAGING TEMPLATE?

Work through the cause

  1. Keep the approved motif source and note the intended repeat in the flat concept artwork. Distinguish that artwork from the perspective presentation.
  2. Inspect the Pattern Fill settings and relevant transforms in each working file. Compare a repeat beside the same design landmark rather than against the screen zoom.
  3. Export comparable flat previews and inspect seam boundaries. Ask the packaging designer to set real production dimensions in the production artwork.

A concrete case (illustrative)

Illustrative case: a star repeat looks much denser on a tall carton mockup than on a short carton. Matching a scale number alone is insufficient when the artwork has been transformed differently.

Acceptance and next action

Pass when concept previews communicate the intended repeat consistently and the production file states its actual dimensions. A raster mockup does not verify registration across folds or print tolerances; those need the supplier’s proof process.
