DECISION GUIDE / Product videos
How do I agree on a product-ad delivery specification before production?
Obtain the specification for the exact receiving placement before production. Record required, actual and accepted values separately. A video playing on your computer proves neither that it meets the recipient's encoding requirements nor that it will retain the intended appearance after the destination processes it.
Name the recipient and the applicable specification
Fictional exercise: a buyer requests a particular video codec and profile with a separate caption file. The merchant sends an MP4 that plays locally, but its internal encoding differs. The filename alone cannot settle the disagreement.
Ask for the current written requirements, placement name and technical contact. YouTube upload guidance and Douyin's product-main-video guidance concern particular destinations; neither supplies one preset for every advertising placement. Record which instruction actually governs this delivery.
Separate requested values from verified output
Include dimensions, aspect, frame-rate requirements, color interpretation, sound, duration and file-size limits where the recipient specifies them. Leave unknown requirements unresolved rather than silently supplying a familiar preset.
| Practice field | Required value | Output evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Container and video codec/profile | Recipient confirms | Inspect exported file |
| Picture dimensions and rate | Placement confirms | Inspect properties and motion |
| Sound configuration | Recipient confirms | Inspect and listen |
| Caption delivery | Track, file or picture | Test received arrangement |
Send a representative technical sample first
Adobe's export documentation distinguishes format and encoding choices. Renaming an extension does not convert the underlying encoding; an appropriate external export or conversion must create the requested result.
- Confirm the specification edition, destination and unresolved fields with the recipient.
- Export a representative approved interval using the proposed delivery settings.
- Inspect the resulting file rather than recording only the preset name.
- Send that sample and the required caption arrangement for recipient review.
- Record acceptance, then verify the complete delivery against the same specification.
Keep technical acceptance separate from content approval
A compatible file can still contain incorrect product claims, unusable captions or unapproved music. Keep those reviews separate, and check the destination's processed preview when available. Technical acceptance is not proof of product truth or usage permission.
Reopen affected checks if the placement or delivery settings change. An upscale cannot create absent source detail. Itemlume does not guarantee every recipient's encoding contract; final conversion and receiving-platform acceptance belong to the external delivery workflow.

Frequently asked questions
Is MP4 a complete delivery specification?
No. Confirm the relevant internal encoding and the receiving placement's other requirements.
Can I use one accepted sample for all platforms?
Only where the respective recipients confirm the same requirements. Acceptance is tied to the recorded destination and version.
