Image remix / DECISION GUIDE
Can you replace a product that is partly hidden by a hand in a reference ad?
Replace a hand-held product only when the new composition can show the real item and a plausible grip without inventing hidden construction. A hand in the reference establishes an interaction, not the shape of your replacement object. Compare the grip with an unobstructed product photograph and choose a different composition when the relationship cannot be supported.
Find the exact area hidden by the hand
A reference may show fingers across a bottle’s label, a thumb covering a dispenser or a palm behind a handle. Each hides different information. Mark the concealed area in your own review notes: product identity, active mechanism, supporting edge or decorative surface. The question is not simply whether a hand exists, but whether it prevents the buyer from understanding the replacement product.
For a hypothetical pump bottle, a finger crossing the nozzle can suggest pressing even when the product is only being held. Do not borrow that action if you have no evidence of the pump’s actual movement. A still advertising image can communicate an unsupported use claim without adding any text.
Compare the replacement geometry with the original grip
| Reference situation | Replacement check | Useful decision |
|---|---|---|
| Fingers around a narrow bottle | Actual diameter and available label area | Change the grip if it covers key identity |
| Thumb on a dispenser | Real mechanism and position | Avoid implying unsupported activation |
| Hand under a heavy object | Plausible support and scale | Choose a surface-supported layout |
| Grip hides a side panel | Unobstructed replacement reference | Keep the hidden detail out or change composition |
These are editorial checks, not a physical simulation. A smaller bottle, wider box or different handle can make an otherwise attractive reference unsuitable. Choosing another reference is often clearer than requesting increasingly complicated hand repairs.
Provide clean product evidence and permission to alter the grip
Upload an unobstructed photograph of the exact replacement product, along with supported views needed for the proposed relationship. Describe which label, opening or control must remain visible. Give the new composition permission to simplify the hand or use a different support. Following a reference closely should not outrank recognizable product identity.
Use a reference you have permission to use, and do not imply that a recognizable person endorses your product. If the campaign needs a recurring person, use an appropriate approved model reference and inspect the resulting interaction. A reference hand alone does not prove the person’s identity, age or consent for a new campaign.
Generate a candidate that can be inspected in a still frame
In Image Remix, state the replacement relationship as a visible requirement: the bottle rests naturally in the hand, the front identification area remains clear, and the hand does not activate the pump. Do not publish a candidate because its overall mood resembles the reference. Count fingers, inspect contact points and compare the object’s outline with the actual product.
The Pixelcut source-photo guide discusses useful unobstructed views. For this decision, the clean source protects the product evidence while the reference contributes the idea of holding. Itemlume does not automatically detect hidden product areas or guarantee anatomically correct hands.
Decide whether to keep, revise or abandon the interaction
Ask a reviewer unfamiliar with the reference to identify the sale item and explain what the person is doing. If the product cannot be identified, reveal more of it. If the implied action is wrong, simplify the grip. If the size looks physically implausible, revisit scale using the real object instead of changing the replacement to match the old hand.
For the illustrative pump bottle, a surface-supported product with a nearby hand may communicate the same human context more reliably than a grip over its label. Keep the unobstructed identification image elsewhere in the campaign. Reject a hand-held candidate when its appeal depends on concealed or invented product information; a simpler layout can preserve the useful message without the unsupported interaction.

Frequently asked questions
Can the generator recover the product area behind fingers?
Do not treat a generated hidden surface as recovered evidence. Supply unobstructed references and review the actual result.
Must the new hand pose match the reference exactly?
No. Change the grip when the replacement product has different dimensions, controls or identity areas.
Does selecting a model guarantee a correct product grip?
No. Model reference and hand-product interaction are separate review decisions. Inspect anatomy, contact, scale and visibility.
