REFERENCE TROUBLESHOOTING / Virtual try-on
How do I photograph reversible sequins without inventing a new colorway?
Document the actual brushed state of reversible sequins and show the opposite face separately if it is a selling feature. Light reflections are not new fabric colors. Keep the chosen state consistent across the generated image instead of allowing AI to mix two appearances into an invented print.
Identify what the reference actually proves
A reversible sequin surface can change when its elements are turned, while an ordinary sequin also changes appearance as reflections move. These mechanisms should not be confused. A highly reflective source may show several light colors that do not belong to the coating. The generator can turn those highlights into permanent colored patches. Conversely, smoothing the surface can erase an intentionally brushed message or pattern.
Prepare the evidence before generating
- Confirm whether the sequins are reversible or simply reflective. Photograph the actual sale garment in one intentionally prepared state.
- Take a second reference showing the alternative state only if the product supports it. Label the states clearly in your private brief.
- Capture a close view where individual elements and overlap direction are visible. Keep the illumination neutral enough to distinguish coating from colored reflections.
- Select one state for the first generation. Review its boundary and coverage before requesting a hand gesture or a changed pattern.
Example creative request and a review matrix
Illustrative request: Show this garment with the sequins in the first photographed brushed state. Preserve the real element size, overlap and coverage. Use neutral studio light so the coating remains recognizable. The second photograph documents an alternative state; do not merge the two states, invent extra colors or turn reflected light into a printed motif.
| Observed symptom | Evidence to inspect | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| A studio highlight becomes a colored patch | Compare the surface under the second lighting view | Reject invented coating color |
| The message changes after a pose update | Compare the prepared brushed-state reference | Keep the approved state |
| The reverse face appears in random areas | Check the actual overlap and brushing direction | Reject unsupported mixed coverage |
Make the release decision
Use genuine paired photographs to explain the reversible feature where necessary. A single generated frame cannot show how reliably the surface flips or how long the finish lasts. If users must see a hand reveal, capture that action with the real product rather than assuming an attractive generated transition proves operation. Keep the state labels in the production record so image revisions do not silently change the colorway.

Frequently asked questions
Can a colorful reflected light serve as a variant reference?
It can explain a lighting effect, but it does not establish the product’s coating colors. Record the actual surface state under controlled, understandable illumination.
