REFERENCE TROUBLESHOOTING / Product images
How do I stop AI jewelry photos from changing a ring’s prongs?
Photograph the setting from a view that separates its visible prongs, and use a second view when the front hides them. Approve the metal supports before judging gemstone sparkle. A convincing bright stone cannot prove that the generated setting matches the ring you sell.
Identify what the reference actually proves
Bright metal tips and gemstone highlights can occupy the same tiny region. AI may interpret a reflection as another prong or remove a support that blends into the stone. A top view also conceals the basket beneath the gem. This is not just a texture problem: extra supports can change the apparent setting style. Count only supports actually visible in each reference; do not infer the hidden side from a generic description such as classic solitaire.
Prepare the evidence before generating
- Clean and photograph the actual ring without changing its setting. Capture a top view and an oblique view that reveals how the stone is supported.
- Draw a temporary numbered inspection sketch outside the public image. Match visible supports between the two views; mark occluded ones as unconfirmed.
- Adjust the reflection pattern so metal boundaries remain readable. Keep a neutral-detail exposure as well as any dramatic sparkle photograph.
- Supply the neutral photograph as the identity reference. Ask for a limited lighting change and keep the supported viewing angle for the first test.
Example creative request and a review matrix
Illustrative request: Create a restrained ring product scene using the supplied top and oblique photographs. Retain the actual prong positions, basket silhouette, band profile and stone outline. Preserve gaps between supports. Keep highlights subordinate to visible construction; do not introduce a halo, additional stones or extra supports. Do not create a new underside that is absent from the references.
| Observed symptom | Evidence to inspect | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| A bright point appears between two supports | Check whether it belongs to metal or a stone reflection | Do not count sparkle as a support |
| The basket becomes a solid cup | Compare the oblique source silhouette | Reject the changed setting |
| A support is hidden by glare | Use the neutral-detail reference | Retake or choose a readable angle |
Make the release decision
Keep the inspection sketch as a manual aid, not as evidence of manufacturing quality or gemstone security. The aim is accurate product representation, not a structural certification. If the image requires an angle for which you have no reference, capture that angle instead of describing a plausible basket. Where prong accuracy cannot be confirmed, retain a real macro in the gallery and avoid using the generated close-up as the deciding view.

Frequently asked questions
Should I simply put the prong count in the prompt?
Include a verified count, but also provide views that show the supports. A number alone does not identify their positions, profile or relationship to the stone.
