Why Doesn't TikTok Symphony Use the Footage From My Reference Video?
Check which Symphony creation route received your reference. In Text to video, an uploaded image or short video can help extract a descriptive prompt, but its visuals are not included in the final video. Reference to video uses reference media as visual inputs, while Image to video animates an image. Choose the route according to what the reference must contribute.
Identify the Reference's Intended Responsibility
A merchant may upload an existing perfume advertisement for two different reasons. One is to communicate an atmosphere: warm lighting, restrained movement, and a premium presentation. The other is to provide the actual product photograph that should influence the new visual content.
Those intentions require different input responsibilities. Symphony Creative Studio's Text to video workflow can use uploaded media to help form a descriptive prompt. The reference footage itself is not incorporated into the resulting video.
This means the absence of original footage is not necessarily an upload failure. The merchant may have chosen a route that interprets the reference descriptively rather than treating it as visual material for generation.
Before continuing, write one sentence explaining whether the reference supplies creative direction, product appearance, or an image intended for animation.
Choose Between Description and Visual Input
Use Text to video when the merchant primarily wants to communicate a creative direction derived from a reference. The extracted description should be reviewed to ensure it expresses the intended atmosphere without importing unrelated product claims.
Evaluate Reference to video when multiple images, videos, or audio references must participate in the creation task. Evaluate Image to video when the primary objective is to animate a particular image.
These routes should not be treated as interchangeable. A descriptive reference is not the same as a visual generation input, and a visual generation input is not a command to reproduce every pixel or frame.
The selected model and creation route must also support the intended input combination. Do not generalize a restriction documented for one model during an initial rollout into a permanent limitation across all Symphony models.
Decision branch: If the reference only supplies atmosphere, evaluate descriptive extraction. If approved product imagery must participate visually, evaluate a compatible visual-reference route.
Illustrative Exercise: Two Perfume Campaigns
Illustrative exercise — fictional merchant scenarios, not executed Symphony operations, uploads, or generated-video tests.
Input A is a fragrance advertisement inspired by an existing premium perfume commercial. The merchant wants similar lighting and pacing but intends to feature a different, approved product. The reference's responsibility is descriptive inspiration rather than footage reuse.
Input B is a new campaign for the merchant's own perfume bottle. The team has approved photographs showing its distinctive cap and bottle shape. Those photographs need to participate as visual inputs, not merely inspire descriptive wording.
For A, evaluate Text to video and review the resulting description. For B, evaluate Reference to video or an appropriate image-based route, subject to current compatibility.
Neither workflow guarantees preservation of exact product geometry or reconstruction of the original reference film.
| Fictional brief | Reference responsibility | Route to evaluate |
|---|---|---|
| A: New perfume campaign inspired by another advertisement | Atmosphere and creative direction | Text to video with descriptive reference extraction |
| B: Merchant's approved perfume photographs | Visual product input | Compatible Reference to video or Image to video workflow |
Review the Right Output Against the Right Input
For a descriptive-reference task, compare the creative direction with the approved brief. Do not expect recognizable frames from the uploaded advertisement to appear in the output.
For a visual-reference task, compare the resulting product presentation with the approved photographs. Check whether the required bottle features remain recognizable and whether the proposed movement suits the advertisement.
If the result lacks the intended product appearance, first verify whether the product photograph was supplied through the appropriate visual-input route. Rewriting the descriptive prompt alone may not address an input-role mistake.
Stop and reconsider the route when the merchant requires literal footage reuse rather than new generation. That is a different production objective.
This guide describes documented workflow responsibilities, not guaranteed output fidelity, universal model compatibility, or successful publication.
Illustrative Exercise — Reference Responsibility and Creation Route
These are illustrative exercise rows. Save a copy and record your own observations; the example is not an executed acceptance test.
| Fictional campaign | Available reference | Required contribution | Route decision | Compatibility check | Acceptance criterion |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| A: Premium fragrance concept | Existing advertisement used for inspiration | Lighting, pacing, and atmosphere | Evaluate Text to video | Confirm descriptive-reference support | Creative direction matches the brief without requiring original footage |
| B: Merchant perfume product video | Approved bottle photographs | Product appearance as visual input | Evaluate compatible visual-reference generation | Confirm supported reference input types | Review bottle presentation against approved photographs |

Frequently asked questions
Why didn't Symphony include frames from my uploaded reference advertisement?
If the media was used in Text to video for descriptive prompt extraction, its original visuals are not included in the generated video.
Will Reference to video reproduce my uploaded product footage exactly?
No such guarantee is established. Reference media can inform generation, but it should not be treated as a command for exact frame reproduction.
