Virtual try-on / SCENARIO GUIDE

AI model image or flat lay: which garment view should you use?

Use a flat lay or product-only view to establish construction and an on-model view to add styling context. They answer different questions. A generated model image should not replace the source evidence or be presented as a measurement-based prediction of a shopper’s fit.

01 / AI MODEL IMAGE OR FLAT LAY: WHICH GARMENT VIEW SHOULD YOU USE?

Choose the buying question first

A shopper evaluating a printed shirt may need to see the complete artwork. A shopper comparing coat length may need a full view and verified dimensions. A model scene adds familiar context, but pose and folds can conceal the very feature that distinguishes the item.

Make a small image-role plan for the garment: identification, important detail and styling. Do not add a model to every view simply because the option is available. Preserve the actual variant and use real product measurements for sizing decisions.

Botika’s explanation of virtual fashion categories is useful because similarly named tools can have different purposes. Itemlume’s current Virtual try-on workbench is a creative garment-image workflow, rather than a shopper-specific sizing engine.

03 / AI MODEL IMAGE OR FLAT LAY: WHICH GARMENT VIEW SHOULD YOU USE?

Build a complementary set in Itemlume

  1. Prepare accurate garment views and determine what each final image should explain.
  2. Use Product images for a product-led treatment when appropriate, or Virtual try-on for the on-model context.
  3. Choose the person reference only for views where a model adds useful information.
  4. Compare the generated garment with the same source evidence before approving each view.

Keep style decisions consistent without demanding identical poses. A calm background in the construction view and a more contextual model scene can work together if the product remains the same. Review colors across the set so warm scene light does not appear to introduce another variant.

04 / AI MODEL IMAGE OR FLAT LAY: WHICH GARMENT VIEW SHOULD YOU USE?

Keep the product page’s promises accurate

Label or position the views so shoppers can distinguish the exact product evidence from the styled scene. Add dimensions, materials and the size information needed for a purchase. Do not turn a visually convincing model image into a claim about how the garment fits every body.

If an on-model result changes a defining seam or print, retain the eligible product-only image while revising the styled view. A complete set does not require every possible image type; it needs enough correct information to answer the actual buyer questions.

QUESTIONS, ANSWERED

Frequently asked questions

Should I replace every flat lay with AI models?

No. Keep the view that best explains each buying question and preserve accurate construction evidence.

Is Itemlume Virtual try-on a personal sizing tool?

No. The current workbench creates garment imagery and does not calculate a specific customer’s fit.

Can a product gallery mix real and generated images?

It can use complementary assets where the destination permits them, but every view must represent the actual product truthfully.
