REFERENCE TROUBLESHOOTING / Product images
How do I keep watch hands, markers and the date window correct in AI images?
Use a legible dial reference and check the hands, markers, date aperture and case controls independently. A fashionable hand position is not permission to redraw the dial. When reflections obscure a character or marker in the source, take another photograph before requesting a larger hero image.
Identify what the reference actually proves
A watch combines printed information, small moving parts and a reflective cover in one area. The generator may preserve the round case while shifting the date window, combining subdials or making a hand pass through the wrong axis. Marketing photographs sometimes choose a particular hand position for composition; that choice still needs to match the model’s actual hand layout. Do not treat an attractive generic watch face as an acceptable substitution for the sold reference.
Prepare the evidence before generating
- Record the exact watch model and variant. Take a dial photograph with readable markers and a second photograph that explains the crown and any pushers.
- Choose the display state deliberately. If setting the hands is appropriate, set the actual watch first and photograph it; keep that state in the brief.
- Move the lighting or camera enough to clear the date window without turning the entire glass cover into an invented matte surface.
- Make a manual dial checklist: hand axes, marker sequence, subdial arrangement, date aperture, logo and case controls. Review the generated image against each item.
Example creative request and a review matrix
Illustrative request: Create a clean product image of the supplied watch at the same dial angle. Keep the actual hand arrangement and photographed display state, marker positions, date-window location, subdial layout and case controls. Retain the crystal’s believable reflections while leaving the dial legible. Do not add a chronograph function, replace text or substitute a generic watch face.
| Observed symptom | Evidence to inspect | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| Hands look plausible but originate at different points | Inspect the dial center and subdial axes | Reject altered mechanism layout |
| The date window changes position | Compare its position relative to fixed markers | Reject the changed dial |
| A reflection becomes a new printed mark | Compare both lighting views | Resolve it with source evidence |
Make the release decision
Keep claims about accuracy, water resistance or complications separate from visual approval. A photograph cannot verify those capabilities. If small dial details remain unreliable, use the original dial photograph as the detail view rather than repeatedly increasing generation resolution. Preserve the approved display state across an image set so a change in hands or date is intentional and traceable, rather than a hidden generation error.

Frequently asked questions
Can I ask AI to set the hands to a more attractive time?
You can explore a concept, but verify the result against the real hand geometry. Setting and photographing the actual watch gives stronger evidence when the final image must represent the sale item.
