Image remix / SCENARIO GUIDE
How to compare product ad variants without changing everything
Define one decision before creating variants: product scale, background context or message hierarchy. Keep the actual offer and product fixed. A creative review can tell you which option communicates more clearly; sales performance needs a separate, properly measured campaign test.
Write a comparison question
“Which image is better?” invites a preference contest. “Which image makes the included two-piece kit clearer on a phone?” gives reviewers a job. Choose a question tied to a real buying uncertainty and decide how you will judge it before generating options.
For a launch ad, compare a large product with a smaller product in context while keeping the approved headline, colorway and offer the same. If you also change the discount and audience, any eventual response could be driven by those differences rather than the visual treatment.
Separate creative review from campaign evidence
| Stage | What to hold fixed | What you can conclude |
|---|---|---|
| Internal clarity review | Product, offer, target crop | Whether information is easier to understand |
| Visual direction comparison | Source, ratio and factual message | Which treatment better fits the brief |
| Live campaign test | Defined traffic allocation and measurement | Results for that particular test |
| Later rollout | Version and destination records | Whether approved assets reached the intended placements |
Do not call a side-by-side visual preference a conversion improvement. Record the reviewers’ reasons and use platform analytics for actual campaign outcomes.
Create a small, traceable set
- Use Image remix to establish the base direction from an authorized reference.
- Name the single visual change for the next version in your own campaign notes.
- Inspect both outputs for product errors before comparing communication.
- Review at the same crop and screen size, without revealing your preferred option first.
Generation introduces uncontrolled variation, so two outputs may differ in more than the intended setting. Record those differences. If one version has a distorted label, reject it rather than counting the flaw as evidence against the layout idea. Compare only eligible, factually acceptable assets.
Decide what happens after selection
Keep the selected file, factual brief, destination and decision reason together. If you run a live test, define the main metric and evaluation period before reading the results. Account for concurrent price, traffic and promotion changes; small or uneven samples can be inconclusive.
Itemlume creates assets but does not run advertising experiments or attribute sales to a visual. Publish through your chosen channel and use its measurement tools. A useful outcome can be a decision to simplify both variants, not a claim that every comparison must identify a winning image.

Frequently asked questions
Does Itemlume automatically A/B test advertisements?
No. Create and review variants here, then manage live experiments and measurement through the relevant advertising platform.
How many versions should I make first?
Start with enough to answer one defined creative question, often two. Add more only when the review identifies a new decision.
Can I publish a conversion-lift claim from a preference test?
No. Preference and clarity feedback are different from measured conversion outcomes.
