Why Does eBay Still Show My Old Product Photo After I Replace the File at Its Web Address?

Updating a file on your image host is not the same as replacing the copy used in an eBay listing. eBay’s photo help explicitly instructs sellers to use a new URL when replacing a photo copied from a web address. Confirm the exact listing image and replacement route before commissioning another picture.

01 / WHY DOES EBAY STILL SHOW MY OLD PRODUCT PHOTO AFTER I REPLACE THE FILE AT ITS WEB ADDRESS?

Identify the copy that is actually wrong

Keep the approved master, the externally hosted file and the picture visible on the listing as separate checkpoints. The eBay help describes storing copies of listing photos. A new image visible at your own address does not, by itself, show that the listing has adopted it.

Record the affected listing and the visible image position. If the main image is correct but an additional image is old, diagnose that particular copy. Replacing every campaign asset because one gallery position is stale creates more uncertainty about which revision buyers are seeing.

Use the replacement method that matches the original input

Match the method to the original input: the official guide requires a new URL for a photo copied from a web address. For a directly uploaded photo, it instead says to delete the existing photo and upload the replacement. Overwriting the same hosted address does not complete the copied-photo replacement.

Keep the approved master and previous address in the handoff. Do not promise a refresh delay or change hosting access controls to force an update. These instructions describe a manual workflow, not an executed listing edit.

  1. Record the listing ID and exact gallery position, and confirm how that photo was originally added.
  2. For a web-address photo, prepare a distinct replacement URL through your authorized hosting workflow and inspect that address to confirm the approved image.
  3. Open Revise your item from My eBay or Seller Hub and use the new URL for the intended photo when that revision is allowed.
  4. After saving, compare the buyer-facing position with the approved master. Retain the source-address check and listing result as separate observations.

Use eBay's photo-replacement instructions to distinguish uploaded pictures from pictures copied from a web address.

03 / WHY DOES EBAY STILL SHOW MY OLD PRODUCT PHOTO AFTER I REPLACE THE FILE AT ITS WEB ADDRESS?

An illustrative exercise: one mug, two label versions

Illustrative exercise, not an account test: a mug listing still shows an old label after the merchant overwrites the hosted file. Prepare and inspect a distinct replacement URL, then use the documented route for that gallery position.

If the new address is wrong, resolve the hosted source first. If it is correct but the listing differs, retain the revision result and investigate that boundary. Neither observation alone calls for generating another mug image.

Approve the received listing, not just the source file

Compare the public listing with the approved source and the saved revision record. Retain the previous source for internal traceability without continuing to distribute it as approved. If other placements use that source independently, inspect them as separate destinations.

Acceptance means the intended listing position shows the correct item and revision. No authenticated listing edit, external-host test, refresh-time measurement, traffic result or eBay integration into Itemlume is claimed here.

QUESTIONS, ANSWERED

Frequently asked questions

Does seeing the new file on my image host prove that eBay has replaced its picture?

No. The source file and the listing copy are different checkpoints. Use the documented replacement method and inspect the listing.

Should I regenerate the product photo when only the listing copy is old?

First establish that the approved master is correct and check the replacement route. A delivery discrepancy does not automatically require new creative work.
