Why Did Updating My Product Spreadsheet Not Update the Pinterest Catalog Images?
Updating a spreadsheet does not automatically update Pinterest. First identify whether your catalog uses a hosted data source or manual uploads. A hosted source must expose the updated feed at its configured location; a manually uploaded source needs another upload after changes. When product imagery changes, Pinterest also requires a different image URL to recognize the replacement.
Identify How Pinterest Receives the Catalog
A merchant may update product photographs and descriptions in a local spreadsheet, then expect Shopping Pins to change. The missing step may be the transfer of that updated data into Pinterest.
With a hosted data source, Pinterest retrieves the feed from its configured location on a schedule. The updated full feed must actually be available at that location. Editing a local copy without replacing the hosted file does not update what Pinterest retrieves.
With manual uploads, the merchant must submit the updated feed again through the existing data source. Creating another duplicate source is not the normal solution to a routine update.
Before troubleshooting individual images, establish which ingestion method the catalog uses and which file Pinterest is expected to read.
Separate Feed Retrieval From Image Recognition
Even when Pinterest obtains an updated feed, a changed product image may not be recognized if its image URL remains unchanged.
Pinterest documents that image replacements require a different image URL. Therefore, two independent conditions matter: the updated product record must reach Pinterest, and its image reference must identify the new image.
Record the product identifier, previous image URL, intended replacement URL, and source-file version. Avoid relying on a filename displayed only in the merchant's local folder.
For hosted feeds, inspect the actual configured source and available ingestion diagnostics. Official documentation discusses scheduled retrieval and an ingestion-trigger option, so do not assume that every hosted source is incapable of manual triggering or that triggering guarantees immediate display.
For manual feeds, update the original data source rather than multiplying catalog sources.
| Observed condition | Primary diagnosis | Next decision |
|---|---|---|
| Local spreadsheet changed; manual feed not resubmitted | Pinterest has not received the revision | Update the existing manual data source |
| Hosted feed location still serves an older file | Scheduled retrieval sees outdated data | Correct the hosted source and inspect ingestion |
| Updated record retains the previous image URL | Image replacement may not be recognized | Supply a distinct URL for the new image |
Illustrative Exercise: Two Catalog Updates
Illustrative exercise — fictional merchant scenarios, not executed Pinterest uploads, feed changes, or account tests.
Input A is a candle catalog managed through manual uploads. The merchant changes a product photograph in the local spreadsheet but never resubmits the feed.
The appropriate diagnosis begins with the missing upload, not an assumption about image caching. The merchant should prepare the updated file for the existing data source and confirm that the new image has a distinct URL.
Input B is a hosted ceramic-mug catalog. The merchant prepares a revised spreadsheet, but the configured hosted address still serves yesterday's file.
The next step is to correct the hosted feed location and examine the available retrieval status. Repeatedly changing the local spreadsheet cannot resolve a stale hosted source.
Neither example represents a completed catalog update or guarantees when Pinterest will display the new imagery.
Verify the Source Before Diagnosing the Pin
Use a two-stage handoff: first verify that Pinterest can obtain the intended product record, then verify that the record points to the intended image URL.
Keep stable product identifiers so the team can compare the same merchandise across feed revisions. Record the image version separately from the product identity.
If the configured source remains outdated, stop troubleshooting the visible Pin and correct the upstream feed. If the feed is current but the image URL has not changed, resolve the image reference.
Only after both conditions are satisfied should the team investigate ingestion diagnostics and subsequent channel presentation.
Do not delete data sources or create replacement catalogs merely to force a routine image update.

These are illustrative exercise rows. Save a copy and record your own observations; the example is not an executed acceptance test.
| Fictional catalog | Ingestion method | Local change | Channel source condition | Image URL condition | Required next check |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| A: Seasonal candle catalog | Manual upload | New product photograph entered in CSV | Updated file not yet resubmitted | Replacement URL must be verified | Update the original data source and inspect ingestion |
| B: Ceramic mug catalog | Hosted feed | Revised product spreadsheet prepared | Configured address still serves the older file | New image URL recorded in revised file | Correct hosted source, then inspect retrieval diagnostics |

Frequently asked questions
Does changing my local CSV automatically update a hosted Pinterest catalog?
No. Pinterest must retrieve the updated feed from the configured hosted location. The local file alone is not the channel's source.
Can Pinterest recognize a new product photograph if I keep the same image URL?
Pinterest's documentation says the image URL must change for the image replacement to be recognized. Check this separately from successful feed ingestion.
