REFERENCE TROUBLESHOOTING / Product images
How do I show expandable luggage without enlarging the entire suitcase?
Photograph the same suitcase in its closed and expanded configurations, keeping camera position and fixed landmarks comparable. Expansion should occur at the actual gusset or mechanism. AI should not enlarge the wheels, handle or entire shell to create the impression of more capacity.
Identify what the reference actually proves
A suitcase photographed closer to the camera can look larger without being expanded. A generator may imitate that difference by scaling the whole product or inventing a wider shell. Side views are particularly useful because the extension is often hidden in a frontal hero. Do not estimate a capacity increase from the area of a generated comparison; the physical configuration and documented specifications are separate evidence.
Prepare the evidence before generating
- Use the same actual case, with its expansion mechanism operated as intended. Keep the telescopic handle and wheels in consistent states.
- Photograph closed and expanded side views with a stable camera and surface. Include fixed landmarks such as wheel centers and shell corners.
- Capture the expansion band or mechanism in detail. Record which zipper opens the case and which controls expansion, if applicable.
- Generate the desired scene from the selected configuration. For comparisons, keep display scale common and check that only supported regions change.
Example creative request and a review matrix
Illustrative request: Show this suitcase in the referenced expanded state. Preserve the shell dimensions, wheels, handles and fixed corners. Let the depth change only through the actual photographed expansion band. Do not enlarge the entire case, add a second gusset or infer a numerical capacity increase from the picture.
| Observed symptom | Evidence to inspect | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| Wheels become larger in the expanded view | Compare fixed landmarks at common display scale | Reject whole-object scaling |
| Expansion occurs at the wrong zipper | Compare the mechanism detail | Reject unsupported construction |
| The front becomes wider although only depth expands | Review the paired side views | Keep the actual direction of change |
Make the release decision
Use verified capacity and dimensions in any comparison copy. The image can help buyers locate and understand the expansion feature, but it does not measure it. Keep a genuine mechanism detail where operation matters. If you only have a closed-case photograph, avoid creating a supposedly factual expanded configuration until an appropriate reference or approved technical evidence is available.

Frequently asked questions
Can two differently framed photographs establish expansion?
Not reliably by appearance alone. Use comparable camera placement and fixed landmarks, then explain any framing differences rather than treating them as product growth.
